A problem well understood is a problem half solved. In order for a woman to have a realistic chance of effectively defending herself against a sexual predator, she must first understand the four-phase strategy that he will use against her.
Rape is almost always predatory. The attacker identifies an unsuspecting victim and then advances when he is confident he will not be stopped.
Once close enough, the attacker will physically subdue his victim using as much force as necessary to prevent her escape.
In order to gain full control, the attacker takes his victim to the ground. From there, he forces her to exhaust all her energy as she fights to escape from underneath him.
Only once the victim exhausts all her energy and is totally helpless, the attacker will carry out the sexual assault.
If a woman is going to effectively prevent a sexual assault from taking place, it is obvious that she must do so during Phases 1-3. The problem is that each phase requires a totally unique defensive strategy, and if the victim were to apply the correct strategy at the incorrect time, her chances of preventing the rape are drastically reduced. The secret to the success of the Women Empowered course is that it teaches women the absolute most effective physical and psychological self-defense tactics as well as the exact time they must occur during Phases 1, 2, and 3. Only through this combination of heightened awareness, effective techniques, and precise timing will a woman have a realistic chance of nullifying a sexual assault.
Today, there are dozens of women’s self-defense courses in existence, yet none of them deliver the results of the Women Empowered course. The reason is simple; every other self-defense course is based entirely on violent physical techniques such as eye gouging, scratching, biting and groin shots. What they fail to realize is that although these techniques are perfectly applicable during Phase 2, they inadvertently help the predator accomplish his goals in Phase 3. These physically demanding techniques would rapidly deplete her energy and lead to her complete exhaustion, which is exactly what the predator seeks to accomplish during Phase 3. Among other things, what makes Women Empowered so unique is a series of leverage-based Phase 3 techniques that will allow the victim to remain calm and conserve energy until she identifies the perfect opportunity to employ the techniques and safely escape.
Unlike the other Gracie Academy programs that are year-round, the Women Empowered course is a five-week program. Classes are held once a week for 90 minutes. No experience is necessary. We teach techniques based on leverage and natural body movements that anyone can learn, regardless of age or physical fitness level. By the end of the course, students will be able to overcome panic and apply the techniques against a resisting opponent in the Attack Simulation Drill.
