Three New Gracie Jiu-Jitsu Black Belts

September 22, 2016

Congrats to Ted, Mark and Thayne!

Chet Schemahorn has been training under the Gracie Academy for over 20 years and was recently authorized to conduct a black belt test on behalf of the Gracie Academy for three dedicated Gracie Jiu-Jitsu practitioners in Indiana and Michigan. The students demonstrated extreme proficiency in all elements of jiu-jitsu, and we're proud to welcome Ted Davis, Mark Kern & Thayne Grove as the three newest black belts of the Gracie Academy.

We're very proud to have Chet as part of the family. He oversees two CTCs in LaGrange and Fort Wayne, Indiana, and spends substantial time teaching seminars as well. Here is a review on one of Chet's most recent seminars:

Dear Jiu-Jitsu Community,

I want you to know you have an exceptional instructor, Chet Schemahorn, certified instructor out of Indiana. On an August Sunday afternoon, several students from our Certified Training Center in Keego Harbor, Michigan and I had the opportunity to learn alongside with Gracie Academy's finest of 20 plus years, Chet Schemahorn. We spent over 3 hours on the mats with Chet. What we experienced during that time has given everyone a better outlook and understanding of what jiu-jitsu is all about.

I am writing this letter on behalf of myself and everyone who attended Chet's seminar at our CTC, to showcase our appreciation and gratitude for instructors like Chet who have committed themselves to teaching the art and staying true to what jiu-jitsu is at its very core.

We were very impressed with the way Chet conducted himself while teaching. He was extremely professional and passionate in the way he interacted with the students during the seminar. Everyone was treated with the same respect no matter the age, rank or ability of the student. Chet's knowledge of jiu-jitsu is truly inspiring to say the least.

The entire experience was informative, eye-opening and humbling. At our CTC, Chet is now known for showing a detail that seems so insignificant on paper but when felt and used for the first time, you can see and feel that they make the biggest impact in your game. We started calling these "Chet Details." They're truly amazing.

I personally recommend that others in our jiu-jitsu community invite Chet for a seminar, as I did. Chet has over 120 hours of training with Helio Gracie himself. And with Rener and Ryron constantly on the run promoting jiu-jitsu, getting quality training time with someone who has been touched by the Grand Master himself will only grow more scarce as time moves on. With the unbelievable network the CTC program has, it's ultimately up to you to take advantage of its resources, as we did.

If you are interested in having a seminar with Chet, you can email for more information.
