A powerful testimonial from an empowered woman!
Last fall I was running on the beach in Santa Monica early in the morning when I was violently attacked and sexually assaulted by a homeless man. I was fortunate to survive and have a very compassionate police officer that responded to my call. When we were in the emergency room, I asked this officer what I could do to protect myself because I never wanted to feel that powerless and hopeless again. The officer spoke passionately about Gracie Jiu-Jitsu and he suggested the Women Empowered classes. The next day I told a male friend about my attack and he also recommended the Gracie Academy.
A few weeks later Rener called me and invited me to come and experience Gracie Jiu-Jitsu. After I told Rener about my attack, he showed me several of the Women Empowered moves that I could have used to escape and avoid the sexual assault. I was extremely impressed and grateful that there was something I could do to defend myself against bigger, stronger males. I attended the Women Empowered workshop in January and I shared my story with the participants because, as a survivor, I wanted to help women understand that Gracie Jiu-Jitsu could help prepare them if they were ever faced with this situation. I started taking the regular Women Empowered and Gracie Combatives classes. The classes have helped me regain my confidence and are a huge part of my recovery process.
Here is one example of what Gracie jiu-jitsu has done for me:
A few weeks after the attack, I had a nightmare that I was being attacked again and I woke up screaming. After taking classes for five months, I had another nightmare that I was being attacked, but this time I quickly submitted the attacker and it turned out to not be a nightmare after all.
I want to express my gratitude to the Gracie Family, Eve Torres, and all the women who have helped me grow. I have thoroughly enjoyed bonding with all of you and I hope my story encourages other women to experience the power of Gracie Jiu-Jitsu.
Empower yourself and inspire others!!!!!
