Gracie Diet Tip: How to Combine on the Go

A common misconception of the Gracie Diet is that it is too complicated to follow on a day to day basis. The beauty of the Gracie Diet is you can eat virtually anything, as long as you combine it appropriately with other foods.

The Common Sandwich: When eating a sandwich, the first thing to keep in mind is that the primary starch or carbohydrate of the meal is wheat (assuming the bread is derived from wheat), and because of this, you should refrain from consuming any foods derived from OTHER starches such as potato, corn starch, rice, beans, etc. If you are still hungry after your sandwich, have another sandwich instead of potato chips so that you avoid violating the starch combination rule. It is best to have the bread toasted or warmed in the oven. Common ingredients that should NOT be added to your sandwich are: Mustard, Vinegar, Ketchup, Lemon, Pepper and Pickles. Common ingredients that DO combine together and can be added to the sandwich in any combination are: Tuna, turkey or meat (no pork i.e. ham, pepperoni, bacon), lettuce, avocado, cucumbers, olives, spinach, tomatoes, cheese (a mild cheese like Jack/American would be best), and green peppers. Avoid sauce or dressing on your sandwich, use olive oil and salt instead. Drink water instead of soda. If you miss the carbonation of soft drinks, have some carbonated water. No matter what, no dessert.
