DoD Identifies Army Casualty

The Department of Defense announced the death of asoldier who was supporting Operation Enduring Freedom.

Command Sgt. Maj. Martin R Barreras, 49, of Tucson, Arizona, died May 13, in San Antonio Military Medical Center, Joint Base San Antonio, Texas, from wounds suffered on May 6, in Harat Province, Afghanistan, when enemy forces attacked his unit with small arms fire.

He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 5th Infantry, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Armored Division, Fort Bliss, Texas.

He was one of the original Ranger NCOs that accompanied Captain Dee McCown on his first visit to the Gracie Academy in Torrance, CA back in 1994/95.

That was the beginning of a relationship that led to the implementation of GJJ through all branches of the military in the USA.
