Qualification Requirements

In order for a martial arts school to be recognized as a Certified Gracie Jiu-Jitsu Training Center, at least one instructor from that school must successfully complete the Level 1 Instructor Certification Course. Listed below are the basic requirements that must be met in order for an instructor to be considered for participation in the course.

Instructor Requirements

  • Technique Preservation – First and foremost, you must be committed to the preservation of pure Gracie Jiu-Jitsu in accordance with the exacting standards of Grand Master Helio Gracie.
  • Official Representative – You must be an instructor at, or the owner of, an established school of martial arts.
  • Healthy Lifestyle – Due to the incredibly profound influence a martial arts instructor has on his students, beyond the self-defense techniques, you must be committed to living a disciplined, healthy lifestyle.
  • Physically Fit – Although the techniques of Gracie Jiu-Jitsu do not rely on physical attributes of the practitioner, the rigorous nature of the instructor certification course requires that you be in very good physical condition.

School Requirements

  • Strong Reputation – The school must be well established in the community and have a reputation for being a professional organization that welcomes all men and women of all ages, athletic abilities, nationalities or creeds.
  • Sufficient Mat Space – To ensure that you can accommodate a sufficient number of people in your community, your school must have at least 1000 square feet of mat space.
  • Territory Availability – You school must be located at least 5 miles from any existing Certified Gracie Jiu-Jitsu Training Center.
  • Liability Insurance – For the safety of the students, your school must have general liability insurance.
