WE ONLY OFFER G.R.A.P.L.E.® & GRACIE COMBATIVES™ FUNDAMENTALS WITH OUR MOBILE TRAINING TEAM (MTT). IN OTHER WORDS, WE DO NOT OFFER THIS PROGRAM AT THE GRACIE JIU-JITSU ACADEMY BUT WILL BRING TRAINING TO YOUR LOCATION

INTRODUCTION

G.R.A.P.L.E.® is the most influential Defensive-Tactics program of all time and from this Rorion Gracie developed G.R.A.P.L.E.® FUNDAMENTALS - a 2-day highly intensive program modeled after the world-renowned Defensive-Tactics. G.R.A.P.L.E.® CERTIFICATION course Rorion Gracie developed exclusively for Law Enforcement Officers, Security Professionals, Federal Agencies and the Military.

G.R.A.P.L.E.® FUNDAMENTALS is based on the Jiu-Jitsu methods Rorion Gracie’s Family has proven to be the premier form of combat in the world today. Read on and you will find detailed information about our program and how this specialized training will benefit you and your organization.

Our overall goal is to teach our Court Defensible and life saving techniques to as many individuals as possible and the new G.R.A.P.L.E.® FUNDAMENTALS course is another way for us to get closer to achieving our goal.

G.R.A.P.L.E. ® FUNDAMENTALS was developed exclusively for Law Enforcement Officers, Security Professionals, Federal Agents, Military Personnel, Air Marshals and Armed Pilots because of three primary reasons:

1. There are a limited number of individuals who need or desire a Defensive-Tactics Certification to train others.

2. Many individuals do not have the time to devote a whole week to training.

3. Due to budgetary cuts in all levels of government, the 2-Day G.R.A.P.L.E. ® FUNDAMENTALS program is more cost effective.

G.R.A.P.L.E. ® FUNDAMENTALS is offered only to Law Enforcement Officer, Security Professional, Federal Agent, Military Personnel, Air Marshal or Armed Pilot.
For National Security reasons, additional information requires our personal attention. Please contact Program Director Spiro Demetriadi by sending E-mail to the Gracie Defensive-Tactics Department or please call + (888) 494-5345 and press  ext.82.

Rorion Gracie is the World's #1 Self-Defense Expert, Founder of the Gracie Jiu-Jitsu Academy and the Leader of the Gracie Family. Rorion's reputation for real life, results oriented, Defensive-Tactics instruction is undisputed and overwhelming in the world today. Rorion is the trainer to the trainers. Whatever Defensive-Tactics training you may have received in the past, it should have included some form of grappling, and if it didn’t, then it is incomplete as a Defensive-Tactics program. More often than not, your instructor has learned from or has been influenced by the teachings of Rorion Gracie.

Rorion has personally trained the majority of the US Special Operations Forces that have been fighting the war on terrorism around the globe, as well as Federal Agencies throughout America. It is fair to say that Rorion Gracie has positively impacted the combat readiness of the US Military worldwide and the Department of Homeland Security.

A Gracie staff member, who is also a former Platoon Leader in the US Army Infantry (Airborne) states:

"I can attest to the importance of having the right equipment and weapon that works when you need it most. The same goes with training a human being. The teaching methodology of the Gracie Jiu-Jitsu Academy is unique in that it addresses not only the physical and technical aspects of a life threatening situation, but also instills in the participants confidence that they will be able to execute the moves when required. This stuff works in the real world.”

OVERVIEW

In most cases, Police Officers or Military Police have always relied heavily on what is known as the "compliance factor" during an arrest. They count on the tried and true psychology concepts such as "respect for authority" and "control through intimidation" to accomplish their objective.

While this approach may prove adequate in a large majority of arrest situations, it is not always successful when dealing with out of control individuals who could be under the influence of alcohol or drugs, mentally ill, emotionally agitated or challenged by language barriers.

Once an Officer realizes their suspect has no intention or is incapable of willing compliance, their only option is to attempt to subdue the individual by force. Faced with an uncertain outcome, the Officer’slevel of frustration or anxiety can lead to a potentially life-threatening situation. In some cases, the Officer has no choice but to pull out their Taser gun, pepper spray, baton or use even more lethal means. This can lead to many different scenarios including harm to the Officer, excessive harm to the suspect that may lead to multiple lawsuits and the most feared of all, having an Officer’s weapon taken away from them by a suspect.

Here is one of the many email messages the Gracie Jiu-Jitsu Academy regularly receives. This email is from Police Officer from a well-known Police Department (dated October 7, 2002):

"I am a **** PD Police Officer and what I think this department needs is a wake up call. We are trained at the police academy with minimal skills necessary to confront an opponent. Most of us recruits who come out of there feel like a piece of meat waiting for the animals to eat you alive once we get out. I think this is because of the lack of emphasis on self-defense put on this department for their Cops.

I think Cops should be trained more so than the average Joe because when push comes to shove the cop MUST win that fight or be subject to serious injury or death. I would like to possibly introduce the fine art of Gracie Jiu-Jitsu to this department and let them see the great that it can do for the cops here.

We wish there was a Gracie Academy here to train us to be winners too. Thank you for your time."

PROBLEM

As charges of excessive force and police brutality continue to mount, fueling expensive, image-shattering lawsuits, as typified by riots and demonstrations throughout cities in the USA and numerous cases throughout the country, it has become painfully obvious, even to the most casual observer that the Defensive-Tactics employed by Law Enforcement training academies are not working.

INDUSTRY CHALLENGES

Most Law Enforcement training academies offer Defensive-Tactics/Self-Defense instruction based on some form of a traditional martial art. However, most of these systems rely on punches, kicks or strikes to be effective. Unfortunately, it is not realistic to expect a positive result when an Officer chooses to trade punches with a combative suspect, especially if they outweight him or her by 40 or 50 pounds.

Furthermore, what happens when that fight goes to the ground as more than likely it will? Punches and kicks are virtually useless at this close range, and the risk of having a suspect gain control of the Officer's weapon increases dramatically on the ground. (A nationwide survey conducted by the FBI on Police fatalities shows that 23% are killed by their own weapons.) Also, prevalent today, Law Enforcement officials are receiving ineffective grappling/ground fighting training from inexperienced instructors.

The result is a false sense of security that only adds to the following alarming statistics:

Dated: December 2, 2002
FBI National Press Office
Washington, DC.
(202) 324-3691

STATISTICS: In 2001, data reported by 9,688 law enforcement agencies covering more than 74.4 percent of the total United States population showed that 56,666 assaults were committed against law enforcement officers while they were performing their duties.

Assaults on law enforcement officers were most often committed with personal weapons such as hands, fists, feet, etc. This form of attack accounted for 80.2 percent of total assaults and resulted in injuries to 30.0 percent of the victim officers. Offenders used firearms against officers in 3.2 percent of assaults; injuries were reported in 11.6 percent of those incidents.

Knives or cutting instruments were used in 2.1 percent of assaults resulting in injuries to officers in 17.6 percent of those cases. Other dangerous weapons, which accounted for 14.5 percent of total weapons used in assaults on officers, resulted in personal injuries to 26.3 percent of the victims.

THE GRACIE BACKGROUND

The Gracie Family has been involved in martial arts for nearly 80 years. They are recognized worldwide for their expertise in the field of Self-Defense & Defensive-Tactics, especially in 1993, when Rorion’s younger brother, Royce, had great successes in the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC), a mixed martial arts event created by Rorion Gracie. Rorion has gained widespread acclaim for his specialized Defensive-Tactics/Self-Defense programs, including RAPESAFE®, a cutting edge program that provides virtually any woman, regardless of age, size or physical ability, with the capability to escape a sexual assault and G.A.R.D.® (Gracie Air Rage Defense), launched before 9/11, a program designed to empower Flight Attendants to control and subdue unruly and dangerous passengers.

Who ever is succeeding in the teaching of grappling in the world today, especially Jiu-Jitsu, cannot deny the impact Rorion Gracie has made in the marital arts world as a teacher and visionary.

THE G.R.A.P.L.E.® SOLUTION

In the mid 1970s Rorion Gracie began training Law Enforcement and Military Personnel. And it was in the late 1980s that Rorion coined the acronym G.R.A.P.L.E.® (Gracie Resisting Attack Procedures for Law Enforcement). G.R.A.P.L.E.® is the result of nearly 80 years of Gracie Jiu-Jitsu and 30 years of active participation and feedback from members of the Law Enforcement community, Federal Agencies and the Military.

The easy to learn fluid techniques of our original G.R.A.P.L.E.® CERTIFICATION course continuously evolves and once again, there is no doubt that our new and demanding 2-Day G.R.A.P.L.E.® FUNDAMENTALS program will set the standard for other Defensive-Tactics instructors and programs.

The techniques of the G.R.A.P.L.E.® program have been taught to members of the FBI, Secret Service, Navy Seals, Army Rangers, Special Forces, CIA, and many other federal, state and local Law Enforcement professionals around the world, as well as some elite international organizations such as the Israel Security Agency and the British Police Special Operations Group. In fact, the US Army has rewritten their combatives manual to include the G.R.A.P.L.E.® techniques they learned from Rorion Gracie.

Rorion Gracie is confident that after experiencing the effectiveness of the techniques G.R.A.P.L.E.® FUNDAMENTALS offers, you will want to make this training a mandatory component of your organization’s basic training. The objective of the 2-day G.R.A.P.L.E.® FUNDAMENTALS program is to make this quality and realistic lifesaving training techniques available to as many professionals as possible.

Unlike many other Defensive-Tactics/Self-Defense programs, Rorion Gracie's programs are not mass-produced because he wants insure his strict standards of quality training.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What is the difference between G.R.A.P.L.E.® FUNDAMENTALS and G.R.A.P.L.E.® CERTIFICATION?

Course Length

G.R.A.P.L.E.® FUNDAMENTALS is a 2-day highly intensive program and G.R.A.P.L.E.® CERTIFICATION requires 5-days of training. Many individuals simply do not have the time to devote a whole week of training. That’s is what makes the G.R.A.P.L.E.® FUNDAMENTALS program so appealing.

Techniques

G.R.A.P.L.E.® FUNDAMENTALS is derived from the core techniques of the G.R.A.P.L.E.® CERTIFICATION program.

In the G.R.A.P.L.E.® CERTIFICATION course, students receive more in depth training. They learn more techniques because they have more time (5 days vs. 2 days) to drill moves and techniques. This makes students more proficient, thus allowing them to teach others. Rest assured, G.R.A.P.L.E.® FUNDAMENTALS course graduates will receive highly intensive training and will learn more about Defensive-Tactics in 2-days than in any other program of its kind on earth. G.R.A.P.L.E.® FUNDAMENTALS graduates may decide, in the future, to pursue a coveted G.R.A.P.L.E.® CERTIFICATION.

Certification

A G.R.A.P.L.E.® FUNDAMENTALS graduate is not endorsed by the Gracie Jiu-Jitsu Academy to teach G.R.A.P.L.E.® techniques to others where a G.R.A.P.L.E.® CERTIFICATION graduate is certified to train others.

Court Defensibility

Because of the confidence Rorion Gracie has in the humane, yet extremely effective, Defensive-Tactics techniques taught in his G.R.A.P.L.E.® programs, Graduates of both G.R.A.P.L.E.® FUNDAMENTALS and G.R.A.P.L.E.® CERTIFICATION qualify so that Rorion Gracie will be willing to testify as an expert in the field of Defensive-Tactics in Police brutality/excessive force related court proceedings, should the need ever arise. In all cases, in order to remain qualified for court defensibility, graduates of G.R.A.P.L.E.® FUNDAMENTALS must take a 1-day refresher course every 6-months and G.R.A.P.L.E.® CERTIFICATION graduates must take a 2-day refresher course at least every 6-months. The reason is to insure that graduates maintain their proficiency and that they are applying G.R.A.P.L.E.® techniques properly and the way they were intended to be applied. Repetition is the mother of skill.

Cost

The G.R.A.P.L.E.® FUNDAMENTALS program cost less than the G.R.A.P.L.E.® CERTIFICATION program.

It is a fact, due to budgetary constraints in all aspects of government that many individuals, especially Police Officers, pay out of their own pocket for specialized training because their organization has limited funds. Our G.R.A.P.L.E.® FUNDAMENTALS program is affordable and the return on investment and benefits graduates receive, is beyond measure. The Gracie Jiu-Jitsu Academy was established to provide the most effective Jiu-Jitsu instruction in the world by giving students the elements to defend themselves as humanely as possible.

What makes the techniques taught in G.R.A.P.L.E.® court-defensible?

Since the moves are based on leverage and technique, rather than strikes and kicks, the physical damage to suspects is drastically reduced. Lawsuits and charges of Police brutality and excessive force decrease significantly as a result of using the G.R.A.P.L.E.® approach. This is an area of major concern for department chiefs and city government officials nationwide.

A direct result of G.R.A.P.L.E.® training is an increase in the morale of organizations, as well as an improved public image for these organizations and the people they protect and serve.

Because of the confidence Rorion Gracie has in the humane, yet extremely effective, Defensive-Tactics techniques taught in his G.R.A.P.L.E.® programs, Graduates of both G.R.A.P.L.E.® FUNDAMENTALS and G.R.A.P.L.E.® CERTIFICATION qualify so that Rorion Gracie will be willing to testify as an expert in the field of Defensive Tactics in Police brutality/excessive force related court proceedings, should the need ever arise.
